Mr George Dowd MD, MCh(Orth), FRCS

Mr Dowd is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at The Royal Free and The Wellington Hospital. He is also one of the co-founders of The Wellington Knee Unit.
His special interests are disorders of the knee, including soft tissue injuries and degenerative change. He has written ten book chapters and many papers on the topic of knee disorders, together with general articles of interest in orthopaedics.

Mr Fares Haddad BSc, MCh (Orth), FRCS (Ed), FRCS (Orth), Dip. Sports Med FFSEM

Mr Haddad is a hip and knee reconstructive surgeon at University College London Hospital, an honorary senior lecturer at the Institute of Orthopaedics, and an orthopaedic surgeon at The Wellington Hospital. He has been a member of the Wellington Knee Unit since 2007. His special interests include arthroscopic and minimally invasive knee and hip surgery, uncemented fixation technology, new bearing surfaces, the use of allografts in hip and knee reconstruction and the assessment of outcomes in hip, knee and sports surgery.

Mr David Hunt FRCS

Consultant at St Mary's Hospital in West London, The Wellington Hospital and one of the co-founders of The Wellington Knee Unit. In addition to an interest in knee surgery, he has an interest in children's surgery and in particular soft tissue injuries of the knee in juveniles and adolescents. He has carried out research and published in this area, most recently on anterior cruciate ligament injuries of the knee in children.

Mr Jonathon Lavelle FRCS(Orth)

Qualified from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School in 1985. He has been a consultant at The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital since 1996 developing a knee surgical practice there as well as The Wellington Hospital and The Lister Hospital. Mr Lavelle has been a member of The Wellington Knee Unit since 1997 and has interests both soft tissue surgery as well as joint replacement and revision surgery. He is involved in running a number of soft tissue knee surgery courses for trainees and consultants including meniscal repair, ACL and PCL reconstructive surgery.

Dr Richard Stratton MA, MD, FRCP

Dr Stratton trained as a medical student at Oxford University and the Royal Free Hospital. He was a house physician at the Royal Free and then medical registrar at Guys Hospital, before training as a specialist in connective tissue disorders under Professor Dame Carol Black at the Royal Free Hospital. He had a research interest in the mechanisms causing scarring and fibrosis and he holds the grants relating to pathogenesis of systemic sclerosis. Clinically Dr Stratton is interested in systemic inflammatory rheumatic diseases and diagnostic medical problems, as well as injection therapies both for the knee and for nerve root entrapment in the lumbar spine.

Mr David Sweetnam FRCS(Orth), Dip Sports Med

Mr Sweetnam qualified from the Middlesex Hospital Medical School in 1987. He subsequently trained in Orthopaedic surgery via the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital training scheme. He has been a consultant at the Whittington Hospital since 1998 where he has been clinical lead of the Orthopaedic department since 2003.

While he maintained a practice in general orthopaedics and trauma in the Health Service, his private practice is exclusively involved with knee surgery. He has been a member of The Wellington Knee Unit since 1998. His interests within the knee surgery include cartilage and ligament injuries and modern techniques to deal with cartilage damage. He is actively involved in research dealing with autologous chondrocyte transplantation.

Mr Howard Ware FRCS(Orth)

Qualified in 1980 at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London. He is now a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Nuffield Hospital in Enfield, North London and The Wellington Hospital. His interest involves sports injuries of the knee, arthroplasty of the knee and hip and revision arthroplasty of the knee and hip. He has been a member of The Wellington Hospital Knee Surgery Unit for 15 years, and will see patients for second and tertiary opinions as well as acute problems.

Mr Andrew Williams MBBS, FRCS, FRCS (Ortho)

He qualified from King’s College Hospital, London in 1987. In January 2000 he was appointed Consultant at The Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and he is a visiting professor at Imperial College, London. He has been a member of the Wellington Knee Unit since 2001. His interest is almost exclusively in knee surgery, especially multi-ligament reconstruction in which he has some of the greatest experience in the world. He is currently the primary knee surgeon for many of the UK’s professional sports teams including many premiership football clubs and Guinness premiership rugby clubs.
